Pre School in Ayyapakkam

A Montessori pre school in Ayyapakkam for children aged 2 to 5 — toddler, nursery and kindergarten in one place, with small groups, a predictable day and teachers trained to work with the materials rather than around them.

About the Ayyapakkam centre

Toddler, Nursery and Kindergarten. Daycare on request.

Our Ayyapakkam centre runs the full pre school age range, so a child who starts in the toddler group at two moves up through nursery and kindergarten without changing school, teachers or routine. That continuity is most of what makes the early years work.

What the day looks like. Mornings open with a long uninterrupted work period — the part of Montessori that does the real teaching. A child chooses their own material, works at it as long as it holds them, and puts it back. Around that sit circle time, outdoor and sand play, snack, and a story. The order does not change from day to day, because a predictable day is what lets a two-year-old settle.

Groups and ratios. Groups are kept small and mixed in age, so a younger child learns by watching an older one and an older child consolidates by showing them. Every group has a lead teacher and an assistant.

What your child is actually learning.

  • Practical life — pouring, buttoning, carrying, cleaning up after themselves. This is where concentration and independence come from.
  • Sensorial materials — sorting by size, weight, colour and sound, which is the groundwork for mathematics.
  • Phonics and early reading, through sandpaper letters and the movable alphabet rather than worksheets.
  • Number sense with beads and rods, so quantity is something held before it is something written.
  • Outdoor time, music and art every day, not as a reward for finishing other work.

Settling in. First separation is handled gradually and at the child's pace, with shortened days to begin with if that is what it takes. We would rather a slow first fortnight than a child who learns that school is where they are left.

Visits run on weekday mornings, during the work period, so you see a working classroom rather than a tour. Come and watch for twenty minutes, meet the lead teacher, and ask what seats are open in your child's age group.
